Jesse was my first Labrador, until then I was a golden girl through and through.  In 2009 as I was training with Lyn Yelton and Jeff Lyons at Rebel Ridge farms,  I saw the difference in progression of training and water attitude between the breeds.  I LOVED their dog "Jinx" (Rebel Ridge's Devils Luck) and inquired about a breeding.  I was informed that they planned on breeding to another chocolate.  I was interested in a black lab and Jeff told me about the last puppy they had left out of their 3-peat breeding to Devil.  They planned on keeping her but would consider selling her to me. I went home that day with a 4 month old little puppy and thought this was going to be a piece of cake!  Her lines were close to Jinx and I was thrilled.

I named her High Peak Rebel Ridge's Outlaw "Jesse Jane and she has definitely fit that name!  She was a handful.   With the help of two professional trainers and then training her with the help of my amateur friends, she learned all the things she needed to compete in trials.  I came out 4 days a week and handled her so we could work together as a team.  She ran 7 derbies and finished 6 of them!  She earned a 2nd and then a 1st in the first two but, as she quickly got wise to trials, she then decided to do it her way.  She ended up finishing the trials but no placements.  Finally, at her last derby, she got another 2nd which put her on the National Derby List.  We ran only 2 Qualifyings.  She won her first one!

At the young age of 2 years old, we started in the all age trials and at 2 ½ she Jammed her first open!  The following fall as a 3 year old she took an Open 2nd, beaten only by the top dog in the country at that time (Cane).  3 weeks later, she won an Open to qualify her for BOTH the National Open and the National Amateur!   A month later she and I traveled to Texas to compete against the top pros in the country at the 2012 National Open.  What a thrill but how intimidating for a relatively inexperienced handler and a young dog, we got through the 4th series and I was on top of the moon!

The more I ran Jesse Jane, the more I realized she was a dog who was either all in or all out at a trial!  We either got 1st or 2nd or went home.  I run Jesse in limited trials and sometimes only stake her in the open otherwise she gets too full of herself!  She is such a fun dog to run but you have to try to stay one step ahead of her all the way.  I have talked to Devil's owner, Chad O'Brien, and he said her daddy was the same way.  I found the challenge worthwhile because of her incredible talent.  She's an intelligent dog who doesn't have to see the mark thrown but still steps right on the bird, just show her the gunner station.  We had a yearlong barren streak but in the spring in 2014 Jesse came to play again.  She won another open giving her both her FC and AFC because she had been amateur handled for all open points.

My goal in breeding Jesse and Payton is to mix that awesome "Devil” drive and marking with the bidability and consistency that Payton brings to the table.  I'm excited about this litter, both dogs have so much to offer and one of the puppies will be the next High Peak project.
